NITAL Testing

 As part of our inspection of manufactured parts, MTA Industrie offers Nital Attack testing on all ground parts in addition to dimensional checks.

 Chemical attacking with acid, called Nital Testing, is an inspection method for detecting local overheating defects on ground surfaces. It applies to steels such as those used for gear teeth, shafts, splines, etc., and shows up areas that have been greatly overheated to the point of being rehardened (traces of wwhite) or areas overheated to the point of being retempered (traces of dark grey or black).

 MTA Industrie carries out Nital attacking using personnel trained in this method:

• The operating method used has been developed in accordance with ISO standard 14104:1995.

• The main phases to consider during the operating procedure are : 

   

  	Cleaning, degreasing, drying	the part is clean
  	Nitric acid attack	the surface turns black
  	Bleaching with hydrochloric acid	the surface lightens  stains appear
  	Neutralisation with sodium carbonate	Elimination of the acid
  	Antioxidant	protection against oxidation
  	Inspection
